San Diego County Binge and Underage Initiative

The Binge and Underage Drinking Initiative (BUDI) is a project funded by the San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency to address the harmful effects of underage and high risk drinking by changing community policies, practices, and norms on the over-consumption of alcohol. Using a comprehensive, evidence-based strategy called environmental prevention, BUDI supports six county-funded regional alcohol prevention providers by facilitating work groups that are designed to address the contributors to alcohol-related problems in our communities. These are generally related to the social availability of alcohol, retail availability of alcohol, and promotion or marketing of alcohol. Leadership for the BUDI is provided by the Alcohol Policy Panel of San Diego, a group of key stakeholders who act in an advisory capacity to change the overall environment in which alcohol-related problems occur in our communities.
